The ability to communicate in real-time is huge. I hate to beat a dead horse here but, look no farther than the middle east. Mobile phone users have had a hand in developments in just about every uprising. A kid in Africa can access more information today than presidents in the past could. Real-time commutation is here and there is no stopping it.

comScore says that almost 50 percent of U.S. mobile subscribers are connected to the internet and are downloading content on a regular basis as well as accessing all kinds of applications. This is up quite a bit from 2009 and some say the U.S. is behind the rest of the world in this respect.

With smartphones starting to take over the the mobile space consumers are driving the need for advanced content and better applications that will change the way we live our lives and do business. comScore also has said that in 2010 40 percent of mobile users accessed news and information while 25 percent where on social networking sites and using browsers for search. Applications have been welcomed by mobile users and are showing the potential to have commercial uses.

Online Commerce
There's no denying that the big guns are ready to move forth and conquer the mobile world. However the area of online commerce has plenty of room for newcomers.

The ability to purchase items right from your phone is already here but not everywhere just yet. Being able to whip out your mobile device and just buy at the push of a button or scan from your phone is right around the corner.

Another piece of this puzzle is being able to take payments right from your phone. This is the missing link and the technology is out there it just has not been adopted by many people so far.

Add in personal search and recommendations and the puzzle is complete. The consumer now has the ability to not only purchase take payments but also find what they are looking for and what others are saying about it and make and informed decision.

Mobile devices are already critical tools in doing market research. Companies are gathering information and getting feedback in real-time. Not to mention they are changing the world as we speak. It's clear that the mobile device is the way of the future there's just no denying it anymore. 2011 will be the year of mobile. Jump on board or get out the way.
